Peanut butter is popular around the world as spread and is enjoyed by both adults and children alike. It is made from dry-roasted peanuts also known as groundnuts since they grow underground. Though called peanuts they are not nut but legume and are a rich source of protein, essential minerals, vitamins, fibre and healthy fats.
Pure peanut butter does not contain cholesterol. It is an important ready-to-eat (RTE) product as it contains a concentrated source of nutrients. However, one needs to always check the label when buying peanut butter as many brands today add ingredients such as sugar, salt, vegetable oil and trans fat, and these can reduce its nutritional value.
Due to its high calories it should be enjoyed in moderation.
